I've just come in for a cup of tea, I've spent the morning stripping a H type ready to repair and show at rallys this year. All the other types can go between £200 and £1500 - £2000 depending on condition.

you then get type A, B F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R and X if its an X the price will go off the scale as very rare, there is only a known couple in the UK. I collect and restore Lister engines, as Jason says D's are cheap but prices are rising, for me to get you a good idea I would need the spec no and serial no as engines which have spec 11 to 13/14 can fetch in good order upwards of £200 to £300 pounds, un restored runners, spec no 20 and upwards £50 to £100 each. The common ones like a D are quite cheap, less than some sets of model castings couple of hundred should get you one ready to show. Just remember that a short serial number means a post 1952 engine. In ME 4584 there is an advert for an auction that includes a number of restored Lister engines.ĭoes anyone know the going price of a restored Lister engine. Lister changed their numbering system (again) by introducing a very simple method with which to date any post 1952 A or B engine.Įvery January, until production ceased, engine serial numbers commenced with number 1, while the Spec number determined the year the engine was built. Post added at 09:00 PM - Previous post was at 08:54 PM. I've probably gone and spoilt all your fun

I believe they are courtesy of David Edgington) (These dates were given to me by another enthusiast. Please note these are build dates and not dates of sale. However, as a general guide the list should be helpful, and reasonably accurate form 1928 onwards. Unfortunately the list cannot be treated as 100% accurate because a duplicate set of 'engine build day books' provide conflicting information as shown by the numbers in brackets.

The following may be useful for roughly dating your A or B type and also types H,J,K,L,M,N,P,Q and R.
